To See Behind Walls

On March 18, 1939 a short story was featured in The New Yorker called the “Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber. It featured a husband’s vivid imagination taking flight to escape the day to day demands of his wife and the mundane traps of American middle class. Fanciful, fun and entertaining, it is a story everyone can relate too.

This short story is about Benjamin Wood. He is a suburban father of two, loving husband and dog owner in Middle America who has a lot of things to do around the house on a cold, winter Saturday morning. You may not know anyone like him but at the very least he will be familiar to you.

“This tale of courage, conviction and adventure will most likely thrill any reader who has the good fortune to come across it. I'm hoping for more flash fiction from Mr. Erickson. To See Behind Walls is most highly recommended.” – 5 stars, Jack Magnus, Readers’ Favorite Reviews

“ For those with a vivid imagination, the sky’s the limit.  Altogether, an inspiring flight of fancy.” - 5 stars, Marta Tandori, Readers' Favorite Reviews

“It is a metaphor of postmodern manhood and fatherhood. It speaks to the adventurous souls of men who are trapped inside very ordinary, boring lives. Indeed, men were not designed to be locked up inside offices and cubicles. The spirit of man craves danger, exploration, discovery, and adventure.” - 5 stars,  Geoff Baggett, Readers' Favorite Reviews
